In 1984 Willem Saris and Irmtraud Gallhofer were convinced that the development of innovative statistical procedures can contribute to the improvement of social science research. We thought that in the social sciences "sociometric research" could contribute to the improvement of the research quality like psychometric research and econometric research in psychology and economy. Therefore, they created the Sociometric Research Foundation.
The most commonly used procedure of data collection in the social science is survey research. This research is based on questions that are presented to a sample of respondents and the answers to these questions are analyzed to draw conclusions. Statistical procedures can be helpful in the design of questions, in the sampling of respondents and the analysis of the responses. In all these steps errors can occur. The statistical and software tools that were developed are presented in this website.
The publications of the researchers involved in sociometric research which the SRF promoted is at the moment well integrated in the social science methodological research. This can be seen in the publications which have been mentioned over the period 2015-2021. These publications show very well the place of sociometric research in social science research.
Given this development, we have decided to finish the work of the foundation. The information collected by the SRF will remain available at this website but we will add no new information about sociometric research on this website.
We like to thank all the researchers that through the years have contributed to the success of the SRF and we wish them a lot of success in their sociometric research.
